Germans filled the whole medal podium in mens matchplay at WMF World Minigolf Championships 2011 in Stockholm, Sweden. Walter Erlbruch took gold after a sudden death play-off against his younger brother Harald, after their final match ended in tied points (lane wins) 3 - 3. Marcel Noack took also the third medal to Germany, by winning the bronze match against Swedens Jonas Gustafsson with lane wins 6 - 3.
The matchplay competition offered many suprises and disappointments to leading players, as often happens.
Five of the top 10 players were eliminated already in the first round of mens matchplay:
Filiph Svensson (ranked 1 in strokeplay), Marco Henning (2), Carl-Johan Ryner (5), Lars Brown (8), and Christian Gobetz (10).
Also womens matchplay gold was decided in sudden death play-off, after tied lane wins 4 - 4,
as Bianca Oberweg of Germany (silver medalist in strokeplay) defeated the 10th ranked Eva Andersson of Sweden in the final match. 13th ranked Sandra Wicki of Switzerland won the bronze match against Karin Heschl of Austria (ranked 3rd after strokeplay), with lane wins 4 - 3.
