The first ever Minigolf Masters Russia Open at the Chaika Minigolf Club in Moscow was played on Monday and Tuesday. The competition was interrupted several times for rain showers and was cut from 12 to 10 rounds in the end.
Except from several local and skilled Russian players also two players from Germany (Marco Templin and Michael Koziol) and one from Finland (Pasi Aho) participated. It was though soon quite obvious that none of them could compete with the best of the home players.
In the ladies class the battle was between Olesya Fokina and Tatyana Chesnova. Both players were playing very well and in the end it was a close race with only 3 strokes margin on 10 rounds. Both these ladies had been top five in the men’s competition with their results. Noteworthy is also that one of the best players in the men’s competition after the first day Sergey Fokin, left the competition the second day to fully support his wife as coach in the struggle for the win, a task that he obviously did well.
In the men’s class there were not that much struggle for the win after Sergey Fokin left because Sergey Kovylyaev, Krylatskoe Moscow, was then quite outstanding with a huge victory margin of 15 strokes. Kovylyaev closed this race already on Monday after the magnificent rounds of 28-27-24-26-25-26. In the worse weather on Tuesday the results was a bit higher but Kovylyaevs victory was never in any doubt.
Second came Sergey Chernitsyn and third another stroke behind came Victor Zhabin
Best of the abroad players where Marco Templin in fifth place, 22 strokes from the victory.
Sergey Kovylyaev and Olesya Fokina received an iPad each for their win.
