In both the ladies and gentlemen class it was a one-man (woman) show from start to ending. In the ladies class Gaby Rahmlow won by 10 strokes, just as she did last year in Rozemaii. She could probably have won even more but it’s seemed that she had a hard time finding the right edge in the game the last two laps when the team completion was over. She was the only lady with and blue average (29,3) even if she, as already said, seemed to play with one safe foot on the break the last two laps (32-32).
Almost as clear as Gaby was the gold medallist, Linda Lundberg was a just as last year again clear silver medallist. This time she could actually cope with Gabys pace in the first three laps. But then lap 4-6 she lost 13 strokes to Gaby and could only play to secure her silver in the end. And the silver was easily cleared by eight strokes. This time the bronze medallist was another Swede, Bernice Thors, usually winning her medals in match play got the bronze after overtaking team mate Annelie Larsson on the last lap.
Final results ladies:
1. Gaby Rahmlow, Germany 234
2. Linda Lundberg, Sweden 244
3. Bernice Thors, Sweden 252
4. Annelie Larsson, Sweden 254
5. Andrea Reinicke, Germany 257
Just as clear winner as Gaby was in the ladies; Stefan Viberg, Sweden, was in the men’s class. This man making his international debut, probably since it was “only felt”, showed absolutely no mercy or nerves. His performance is one of the best seen at the international stage for a long time. With a brilliant 26,0 average he just mashed all competitors to win by astonishing 14 strokes. On his way he managed to set a nice course record by 22.
The runner up, Markus Janßen of Germany, played master felt golf in 5 of 8 rounds (having an average of 25,2 on these five), but the three rounds he “only” played 33-33-30 he lost 17 strokes to Stefan that played 25-29-25 in these rounds. Nevertheless it was silver to Markus who overtook the silver spot from Herbert Bäk of Austria in the last round. Herbert Bäk had seven of eight rounds with blue scores but he didn’t really manage to get down to the far deep blue levels as Stefan and Markus did several times.
Two other international debutants Michael Müller, Germany and Mikael Karlsson, Sweden got fine end placements in fourth and fifth place.
Final results men:
1. Stefan Viberg, Sweden 208
2. Markus Janßen, Germany 222
3. Herbert Bäk, Austria 224
4. Michael Müller, Germany 228
5. Mikael Karlsson, Sweden 229
