Last weekend the last round two rounds of the Swiss Team Championships was played the difficult 80% size concrete course in Willisau. It was to become a thrilling weekend for the mens and not so thrilling for the ladies. But before the weekend the table actually predicted the other way around.

Before this weekend ranking was:

Men:
1 MC Eichholz Gerlafingen 64 698
2 MC Olten 51 716
3 MC Neuendorf 44 726
4 MC Burgdorf 41 733
5 MC Berner Falken 30 740
6 MC Amriswil 23 759
7 MC Grenchen 16 778
8 MC Bellinzona 11 839

Ladies:
1 MC Effretikon 53 447
2 MC Olten 51 459
3 MC Burgdorf 36 478
4 MC Neuendorf 28 509
5 MC Willisau 10 563
6 MC Bellinzona 2 594

On Saturday 4 rounds was played.

In the ladies category it was just 2 points difference between Olten and Effretikon and it seemed to become a close match between these 2 teams. At first not much happened between the two but in the third round Olten lost 5 points to Effretikon and in the Olten lost another 2 points. So a firm grip of the title for Effretikon after Saturday. Best female players at this day were Wicki Maja and Weber Reby (both MC Effretikon) with 117 (29,25).

So after first day Effretikon was leading with 9 points. And also in the bottom of the table Bellinzona made 16 points and Willisau just 9, so the match of avoiding degradation was just one point difference.

In the men’s category there was a big lead of 13 points and 18 strokes for Gerlafingen. But the day started lucky for the hunter team of MC Olten. Neuendorf won (175) with Bern second (182) and tied third Olten and Grenchen on (185) only one stroke ahead of Gerlafingen in 186. Olten with one stroke won 3 points.

Second round Gerlafingen was back again and won with 179. Olten had another lucky ranking on 2nd place with 185, the teams behind had 186, 187, 188, 188, 188, 189.

In the 3rd round Olten was playing better better with 175, 2nd place behind Burgdorf with 174, Gerlafingen was unlucky with 184 and just 5th place and losing 6 points.

On the last round it was again Gerlafingen winning with best round of this day and 172, Olten 2nd with another 175.

Best men players was Rhyn Michel (MC Olten) with 113 (28,25).

After this Saturday Gerlafingen was still in the lead with with 8 points and 17 strokes before Olten, and Neuendorf who was the best team of the day was just 4 points behind Olten. Also the mens team of Bellinzona got many points with 18 at this day and came close to Amriswil with just 2 points behind in the bottom of the table.

So both the men and women team of Bellinzona were both just 2 points behind the 2nd last teams.

On Sunday the league only plays 3 rounds (as usual at the final day).

In the ladies category the first round was round of Olten women. They played incredible 82, won this round and Effretikon was just on 3rd place. So just 5 points left in the top. But in the 2nd round Effretikon came back with good 90, Olten on 2nd place with 92. So with leading 7 points Effretikon was almost through. And in the last round they won again in last round with 91, Olten 2nd with 94.

Best female player was senior Wicki Esther (MC Effi) with 88 (29,33).

At the end Effretikon was again too strong to beat for Olten and they won their 5th title in a row with a 9 points margin. In third place was the newcomer team from Liga B from Burgdorf. Bellinzona had no good round and lost another 3 points to Willisau and have to go down to Liga B.

In the mens Olten started with another 175 (3rd in a row) and took 2nd place behind coming back team of Burgdorf with 171. Gerlafingen was with 183 just on 4th places, cause Bern was between with 179. Olten won 4 points and 8 strokes, but still 4 points and 9 strokes behind.

But then the most incredible round of the weekend was coming up. The Olten men lead by Mich Rhyn (he started this round with 25!) took out the very best round for whole weekend and played 165 (avg 27,5), winning this round 11 strokes before Gerlafingen that also with also a very good round of 176. But from now it was clear that the team that won the last round will also be the Champions since Olten was now 2 points behind but with better strokes. And second priority will be summary of strokes.

On the last round the Olten team was again playing again and won this round also, and therby becoming the Swiis Champions, 2 strokes before Burgdorf and 8 before Gerlafingen. After all, the final belonged to MC Olten with the best average of 28,6 on this difficult course. And Olten they won their 5th title in a row and it´s a new record in Switzerland of men teams, winning 5 in a row. Gerlafingen was second 2 points behind and third team was MC Neuendorf but quite far behind (22 points).

Best player was Marco Nicolussi (MC Burgdorf) with a new course record of 78 (24, 30, 24). Bellinzona was even with Amriswil at the end, but have to go down because of worse strokes.

Final table of 2012:

Men:
1 MC Olten 136 1951
2 MC Eichholz Gerlafingen 134 1961
3 MC Neuendorf 112 2006
4 MC Burgdorf 96 2011
5 MC Berner Falken 73 2041
6 MC Grenchen 47 2107
7 MC Amriswil 37 2113
8 MC Bellinzona 37 2170

Ladies:
1 MC Effretikon 117 1075
2 MC Olten 108 1097
3 MC Burgdorf 74 1156
4 MC Neuendorf 47 1216
5 MC Willisau 24 1279
6 MC Bellinzona 20 1307
