Earlier we reported that weather played a factor in 2 major tournaments being played on May 14 and 15 and the Nations Cup in Portugal wasn't exempt from this either, with rain interrupting play twice on Saturday. However, the players battled through it and in the end, Sweden emerged victorious after having to go to sudden death against the Germans (who had also seen success in the U23 Nations Cup the same weekend).
Overall 8 countries fielded teams for the tournament with 42 total participants between the men's and women's divisions. There was a good spread of low scores including a 19 by Fredrik Persson who took the men's division. Melanie Hammerschmidt was the low scorer in the women's division over the 12 rounds. Just like in the U23 Nations Cup, the top two teams worked their way through the field and semi-finals by fairly comfortable margins, only to lock horns in the finals, swapping who won the final two rounds.
This weekend spotlighted the courses that will also be used in the Open European Championships in August.
