The Austrian Championships or the ÖM - Staatsmeisterschaft, are sine a few years back divided into two parts. A first three days are strokeplay played and a strokeplay champions is awarded. The last day is a Match Play day where the best 16 best ladies and 32 best men plays for the Match Play Championships.
This year the competition was held in Vienna on eternit and beton. In the strokeplay part there was to be awarded new champions. Maybe most surprising was the new champions on the men’s side. After a raffling finish where Christian Gobetz and Adriano Steiner was all equal with two lanes to go, Adriano could despite a miss on lane 18 win the stroke play championship because Christian finished with two misses on lane 17 and 18. Third another stroke behind came Robert Konrad, who by a strong finish of 19 took the bronze after beating Gunther Inmann in a sudden death.
But in the match play Adriano Steiner was knocked out in the quarter finals by the more merited and experienced Heinz Weber. Weber was then off to the final where he won over Manfred Lindmayr. Bronze was taken by Christian Gobetz after winning over Paul Heschl.
In the ladies strokeplay we had another new Champions where new rising star of the Austrian Minigolf scene Manuela Zojer won as the only lady with an overall green average by five strokes over veteran player Elisabeth Kammerer. Bronze was taken by Lisa Gruber.
In the ladies Manuela Zojer also managed to play well all the way to the final where she meet another experienced player in Lisa Gruber. But yet again the more experienced player won and Lisa took the Gold. Silver for Zojer and bronze was taken by Birgit Heschl.
