The Senior´s German Championship took place in our beautiful and exciting Capital Berlin from the 11th to 14th of July, on the Concrete and Eternit courses of the Tempelhof club. Apparently it was the most rainy championship ever and maybe somewhat historical. 6 out of the 16 rounds to play had to be cut due to rain, so only 4 qualification combination rounds (one on Concrete, one on Eternit, in turns) and one final combination round for the best of each category were played. On the Saturday before the Championship a very heavy shower even flooded parts of the course (have a look at the photos) and it needed hours to dry the course so that practice could be continued on the next day. This shower also flooded some cellars in the neighbouring streets. It happened again on the finals day but the flooding could be removed quicker and the Championship could be continued. So this was really hard work for all the helpers and the main referee Volker Missionier, and they did an absolutely great job. In the name of all players I would like to say thank you to all the helpers and the hosting club TMV. In total there were 10.5 hours of interruption due to rain.
Nevertheless excellent scores were played on the challenging courses. Actually the Concrete course is seen as one of the most challenging courses in Germany.
The male senior´s category (men older than 45) was won by Göttingen´s Konrad Jahr with a total of 255 (average 25.5) in front of Robert Kullick from Berlin-Tempelhof with 258 (average 25.8). Günther Plötz from Berlin (VfM) came 3rd with 260 (average 26.0). It was a hard fight for the lead with changing leaders again and again. But on the finals day Konrad Jahr conquered the lead. For some rounds Bernd Szablikowski from Mainz was in lead but at the end he ended up on the 4th place. Last year´s winner Udo Rathje reached the 10th place.
Werner Limpius from Höchberg (near Würzburg) won the male senior´s II category (that of the elderly seniors aged above 58) with a total of 267 (average 26.7) in front of Egon Schacke from Berlin (MSV) with 270 (average 27.0). Heinz Höferlin from Inzlingen reached the 3rd place with 275 (average 27.5). Last year´s champion Heinz-Theo Giegel from Herten ended up on the 5th place.
In the female senior´s category Andrea Reinicke from Cuxhaven could beat Gaby Rahmlow from Hamburg-Lurup this year. Andrea had a total of 266 (average 26.6), 4 shots ahead of Gaby. Petra Frank from Munich (BSV) came 3rd with 289 (average 28.9).
Monika Erlbruch from Olching dominated the female senior´s II category. She won with a total of 285 (average 28.5) in front of Gabriele Schröder from Berlin (MSC) with 307 (average 30.7). Brunhilde Rahmlow from Hamburg-Lurup reached the 3rd place with 310 (average 31.0). Last year´s champion Birgit Stiebeling from Cuxhaven ended up on the 4th place.
The team competition was won by the local team from Berlin (TMV, the hosting club) with a total of 630 (average 26.3). The Mainz team was in lead from the beginning on, but in the last combination round, especially on conrete, they lost the lead and came 2nd, only 7 shots behind the TMV team. The other local team from Berlin (VfM) reached the 3rd place. Only these three teams had a green average. Almost all team rounds of these three teams on Eternit were below 70, so quite good. That shows how difficult the concrete course is.
