Minigolfers Roll the Dice at Major Series of Putting
Ricard Locker - High Roller Winner  (Photo by MSOP Website)

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - From October 27 through November 5, putters from all walks of life competed on a 20 thousand square foot arena in fabulous Las Vegas as part of the Major Series of Putting (MSOP). This was the first MSOP championship event and it is the brainchild of the founder of Cirque Du Soleil. There were several events held throughout the week with buy-ins ranging from $250 to $11,000 and winners purses ranging from $15,000 (~12,860 EUR) to a top prize of $110,000 (~94,280 EUR) for the final tournament of the week, the high-rollers tournament.

The line-ups for the various tournaments featured a cross section of professional golfers, people who wanted to try their luck with the putter and of course some competitive miniature golfers. Some familiar names from the US were in attendance including Brian Johnson, Matt Male and Rainey Statum. From across the pond, Sweden also was represented with Anders Olsson, Ricard Lockner and Gunnar Bengtsson, this years World Adventure Golf Masters winner. Overall the miniature golf contingent did great in the tournament with the following top 3 results:

Turbo Singles: Anders Olsson - 3rd ($5,925)
Turbo Singles 2: Anders Olsson - 2nd ($8,500)
Team Championship: Rainey Statum & Gunnar Bengtsson - 2nd ($8,500)
Turbo Singles 3: Anders Olsson - 2nd ($8,500)
Mini Turbo 2: Gunnar Bengtsson - 2nd ($750)
High Roller Invitational: Ricard Lockner - 1st ($110,000)

If you are interested in reading a description of each of the event, seeing what the schedule was like and seeing the payout for the top three you can find that all
here. There is a also a link to the complete round-by-round results for each of the events here.

Coming up later in the month we're going to have an interview with some of the players who participated in the events to help compare and contrast this with the miniature golf events we know and love. Make sure to stop by to catch that read when it's available.

(Note: This article was updated as Rainey's 1st place was not in the overall All-Pro tournament but had won money in the qualifying rounds. The minigolfers also won some money beyond the top 3 now listed in this article).
