On July 26, 2020, Malta, via the Malta Sport For All (MSFA) organization, became the latest member of the World Minigolf Sport Federation (WMF) as approved by the Executive Committee. The Republic of Malta, which sits off the coast of Italy in the Mediterranean Sea, is a country of about 500 thousand. Marco Tomasini, General Secretary of MSFA, talked a little about the sport in Malta and the aims of becoming a WMF member.
“In Malta minigolf is a new discipline and it is based in one field inside a resort. It is now time to start developing this amazing sport as a real discipline and not just as a leisure one. Our goals are to get the highest recognition in Malta, become a full member of WMF and to eventually participate in a World or European championship. As part of the WMF we can increase our number of participants, have a path to follow {for growing the sport} and request support around the world. It will also help in our request to our government to recognize minigolf as a sport.”
The WMF is excited to welcome Malta as the 64th member and extend best wishes and support to furthering the sport there.
