Bischofshofen - As all Austrian national and international Championships were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Austrian Federation invited the youngsters to participate at the Austrian Youth-Cup in Bischofshofen August 8th and 9th. Six rounds of competition were played over two days on both Concrete and Miniaturegolf. Nine lanes were selected from each of the styles on the competitive courses of Bischofshofen.
The goal of the event was to keep the kids connected with minigolf after a quite long period without any tournaments. Although the invitation went out not long before the event, 18 boys and girls, age 8-18 from all over Austria participated. Only two practice days were allowed to guarantee equal chances for all athletes and to not over-challenge the kids.
The weather was hot over the weekend but that didn’t stop some good scores from being posted by the youth. Overall, Achim Kronbichler posted the best score for the 6 rounds (169) and the best single round score (23). Sandra Irxenmayer has the best overall score for female youth (176) along with the best single round for females (28). There was also a match-play event that saw Patrick Schleich and Janette Praher take the wins in their respective divisions. Overall the kids had a lot of fun both during and after the competition, which is the important part of the competition!
