Maine State Open was played on September 9th, in Boothbay, ME. After the first three rounds of play at Dolphin Mini Golf it looked like there was going to be a close race at the top of the leaderboard but over the next 7 rounds Elmer Lawson put any doubt about who was winning to bed.
After starting the tournament with a 32, then throwing in a blistering 30 in Round 9, Elmer finished with a 21 stroke lead over Dusty Stoddard. That effort secured him $1,000 for the win along with the coveted “blue jacket”.
It might not have been close at the top but everyone was interested in seeing just how great Elmer would shoot from round to round. The real competition came for the other paying spots. Just four strokes separated 3rd through 6th with these places not being determined until the final round. The most excitement of the tournament came as a result of a three-way tie for 8th place, which was the final money place in the tournament.
After 180 holes of play, it took 4 more to decide the final spot and in the process made for some great drama. Lee Stoddard (owner of Dolphin Min Golf) would like to thank everyone for playing and hopes to see everyone next year.
