Double for Paolo Porta and MGC Novi Ligure in Follonica

Italy 09 Mar 2009 at 12:00 | Published by:  | Views: 8035 | News search

Double for Paolo Porta and MGC Novi Ligure in Follonica The first national tournament included in the Italian national ranking 2009 has been played in Follonica.

55 players started in this tournament which was played with very nice weather conditions and 15-20°C.

It turned out to be a very nice day for Paolo Porta and his club MGC Novi Ligure who where talking a double victory in the individual and team event. This is usually quite hard because home players are usually very strong and almost "unbeatable" on their home course.

Paolo started strongly with a blue score, 24, in the first round, followed by a 26 in the second round. In the last round he just managed the victory with a "safe" 30 round, for a total of 80 strokes (26,7 avg).

The rest of the podium was kept by the young home players Lorenzo Ciompi (83: 27-28-28) and Lorenzo Bellucci (84: 25-27-32), both with experience from the Italian Youth National Team.

The victory in the ladies individual event went to Paola Tecchio (GSP Vergiate) with 85 strokes (28,27,30), three strokes better than Daniela De Palma (ASMI Valdarno) with 88 strokes.

It became a very close game in the team event, with team from Novi Ligure and 2 teams for Follonica fighting for the final victory. MGC Novi Ligure team (Paolo Porta, Piero Porta, Andrea Montomoli, Gioacchino Ricchiuto) took a surprising victory with a total score of 347 strokes while the two home team (Follonica 1: Lorenzo Ciompi, Lorenzo Bellucci, Nicola Bellucci, Maurizio Manghetti, E: Andrea Balestrieri - Follonica 2: Antonio Goiorani, Fabio Gentili, Vincenzo Zeno, Gianni Montauti, R: Roberto Pierozzi) tied for 2nd place with 350 strokes.

Victories in other categories went to:

- Fabio Gentili (ASMC Follonica) in the 2nd men category with 82 strokes.
- Vanessa Ruggiero (ASMC Follonica) in the 2nd ladies category with 94 strokes .
- Sergio Biagetti (ASMC Follonica) in the 3rd men category with 87 strokes.
