It has now become a tradition that the new year of Minigolf gets a smashing start with the Swedish Cup. This is one of the most prestigious team competitions in Sweden and has usually a really strong starting field.
This year an impressive 25 teams was starting and only Uppsala, Södertälje and Sundsvall amongst the best team where missing. This time the tournament was played in the brand new indoor hall of Asarum, in the south of Sweden. The courses was proven quite hard with a PAR of 21,1.
The favorites before the completion were Skoghall, Sjöviken (almost home ground) and Tantogården. On Saturdays qualification rounds there where not so many surprises. The favorites were winning one group each and the last group was won by the second team from Tantogården.
As usual the big drama was to be found in Sundays knock-out rounds. The team included in most drama was maybe Olofström who won their first match against Elitserie silver medalist 2012, Kungälv, after a team sudden death. Also the second match ended in sudden death. This time Olofström lost against Tantogården 2. Tantogården 2 then won their semifinal against Tuve, who was knocking out one of the favorites Sjöviken in the quarter finals, and was through to the final.
On the other half it was one team that was dominating all their matches and that was Skoghall. The team from Värmland had a bit of a slow start on Saturday but on Sunday they showed their skills and with victory numbers of 19, 9 and 5 strokes they were in the final.
Tantogården 1 that was losing by 5 strokes to Skoghall then won the bronze match over Tuve securing two Tantogården teams on the podium.
In the final the Skoghall team was in the beginning 6-7 strokes behind after a start almost without misses by Tantogården 2. On the 22 first lanes in the final they used 24 strokes. But then Skoghall got their machinery going and Tantogården started to get their twos, so in the end Skoghall won quite comfortably by 89-95.
