As a special competition between the Netherlands and Germany, the Dutch-German Contest was hold on the felt course in the Dutch town Appelscha on the 27th and 28th of April. It is a competition between several Dutch and German teams of seniors. Although it is a semi-official international tournament, the starting list of the German and Dutch teams read like the who is who in seniors minigolf. World and European champions, some of the best seniors were playing.
The Dutch-German Contest was hold as a preparation for the Seniors Nations Cup, taking place on the same course on the 18th and 19th of May. It was organized by the German Seniors National Coach Uwe Tusch and Huub Bottenberg from Appelscha and is a sign for the friendship between the Dutch and German minigolf associations.
The weather conditions were ok. It was dry but quite cold. So the competition could run smoothly.
There were 5 rounds to play, 3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. 6 teams were formed, 3 Dutch and 3 German. A team could consist of 4 or 5 players. If it comprised 5 players the worst score of each round was cut. Only team Germany I had 5 players, the other German teams only 4. All Dutch teams were formed of 5 players. But that didn't help the Dutch so much.
Team Germany I won with 648 (ø 32.4) in front of team Germany III with 657 (ø 32.9). Team Netherlands II reached the 3rd place with 674 (ø 33.7).
The best player was Karl-Heinz Gerwert from Waldshut with 156 (ø 31.2), followed by the Grand Lady of German minigolf, Gaby Rahmlow from Hamburg, with 160 (ø 32.0) and Robert Kullick as well as Uwe Ludwig, both from Berlin, with 161 (ø 32.2). The results of the players behind them were very close together down to the 20th place. The best Dutch player, Wilbert van Helmond, ended up on the 6th place with 162 (ø 32.4). Huub Bottenberg reached the 10th place with 167 (ø 33.4).
So the German and Dutch players are well prepared for the upcoming Seniors Nations Cup and the European Cup in Appelscha.
