Six companies currently have a WMF license to produce minigolf balls for official competitions: 3D/Fun-Sports, Infinite, Nifo, Reisinger/B&R, Ruff/Ravensburg and SV Golf.

Other companies than these cannot currently produce new competition balls for use in competitions of WMF or its member federations. However, some companies (such as Migo Sport, etc.) have had a WMF license in the past years, and their older balls remain legal in WMF competitions, even if they no longer have a license to produce new balls. A list of licensed balls of all years can be found at WMF website.

WMF introduced the ball licensing system in early 2000’s, to raise money for its activities. Old minigolf balls are not banned retroactively: all minigolf balls and golf balls that were sold to players before the licensing system was introduced (Wagner, Beck & Meth etc.), are still approved in official competitions.
