There are about 300 recesses on one golf ball, and thanks to them, the ball flies three times farther than a smooth one. ... Balls of the same size...

Dace Kupce-Krievina made a rare visit to Latvian minigolf competitions, and left the usual favourite Madara Kirša far behind at Latvian Championships in Liepaja, which was also part 4 of Latvian Trophy 2009 season.

Dace played average score 23.40 at the eternite course of Liepaja. Women’s silver medalist Madara Kirša also reached a rare green total score in Latvian competitions, with average 24.90. Ilze Kupce was third in women, with average 26.30.

Latvian minigolf is traditionally more prestigious in women than in men. That was the case also this weekend, as Marek Tikerberi took gold in men’s competition with average 26.10, and Jánis Dziguns was second with average 27.20, after a tied score and sudden death play-off against Girts Ieleja.

Victory in team competition went to KKB team of the Kupce dynasty, with 300 points (average 25.00). Team Líva of the Kirša dynasty got silver with total score 301 points (average 25.08), only one point behind the winner. Limbazu OC was third with total score 323 (average 26.92).

Apsveicu Dacit! Beidzot atkal esi forma!

Latvia Werners (Verners Kirss)

I would like to add some comments :
1.During Championship a new record (20) for quite old Liepaja eternit course was made by 3 players - Verners Kirss, Madara Kirsa and Dace Kupce - Krievina.
2. The average score level for best players was very high taking into account the quality of Latvian courses and possibilities to play under 20. In my memory it was the first tournament when the winner played average score under 24.
3. It was not so clear final result in Ladies Class as it was written here. The destiny of the Gold Medal in Ladies class was decided only on the 9th (penultimate) round of 10th. Before that Madara nearly catched Dace and was only 1 point behind Dace.
4. It is strange and amazing but the new Latvian Champion in Men Class the second year in a row is Estonian (!!!) player Marek Tikerberi !!!
5. The were not Team Championship where medals were awarded - this tournament was only 1 of 6 stages of Latvia Cup. Medals for teams will be awarded only at the end of the season. Leaders are still the team LIVA represented by Kirši dynasty and some ex-Liepaja guys.
