8th Annual Red Putter tournament this year gathered together 64 players ,largest player count in Red Putter Pro Tournament history. As usual it was a mix of local players, and people from all over the country. Players had to qualify by playing round of 41 or better (par 42 course).
The tournament morning was very rainy so players had to tune up their shots on very wet greens. But the rain stopped just before play started and soon the sun was out.
It was a pretty tight race after the first 2 rounds. Mark Schroeder was tied with Nicholas Kwaterski for 1st place with 71 points total. Paul Nelson was only one point behind leaders. Connor Massei - 4th with 73 points. In the 3rd round Mark Schroeder from Shorewood, WI surprised everyone by scoring 31 setting new tournament record for best round, earning 100 dollars for best round and thousand dollars for winning tournament. Mark Schroeder also improved total score tournament record by one point- 103 points.
That brand new Red Winners jacket looks great on Mark and it is only second year when winners are awarded authentic PGA style jacket. In 2006 Mark was 2nd at the Red Putter Pro but this is the first time he is winning this event.
Nickolas Kwaterski, the 2008 Red Putter Pro Champion, came in second place with total score of 108 earning 300 dollars.
There was a tie for 3rd between Rick Chomeau and Tom Gomoll. Course owner Bob Yttri likes to keep things simple. To prevent replays from dragging too long, as a tradition the replay starts with the most difficult hole- The Bear, hole No 7, continued by Log hole, No 2. Usually one of these two holes defines the winner. On the Bear, hole 7, each player scored 2. Play proceeded to the Log, hole 2, where Tom scored 2 and Rick had a hole in one winning 100 dollars.
Next year's tournament will be Saturday, August 7th, 2010.
