More world records still possible in Lamego

Portugal 06 Aug 2009 at 17:43 | Published by: JJM | Views: 11310 | News search

More world records still possible in Lamego Day 2 of Seniors European Championships in Lamego, Portugal, didn’t produce more world records. But the third competition day tomorrow possibly will produce a new world record of 4 rounds beton minigolf, if Tommy Blixt plays his last beton round 24 (which is his average so far, 24.00 after 3 first rounds). Also Francesco Leuci and Reinhard Schuster have a chance to break the world record of 97 points in 4 rounds of beton, if they score 23 or better in the last beton round tomorrow.

Francesco Leuci of Italy still continues on top of the leaderboard, despite his catastrophic third double round 28 25 (B + E). Tommy Blixt of Sweden is second in men, 2 points behind Leuci, and Reinhard Schuster of Austria is third, 2 points behind Blixt. Player of the day was Karl-Heinz Gerwert of Germany, who scored 20 24 21 today (E + B + E).

Senior women’s leader Linda Lundberg (Sweden) is quite sensationally 4th best of all players in the tournament, 2 points behind Schuster, with average 25.67 on beton and 21.33 on eternite. Maria Fuschlberger of Austria is second best in women, 9 points behind Lundberg, and Greta Janssens of Belgium third, one point behind Fuschlberger.

Men’s team competition seems to get an interesting final day, as Italy and Germany are in tied points after two first days. Also Sweden still has realistic hopes of a gold medal, 13 points behind the two leading teams, unless they end up fighting for bronze with Switzerland, which is 8 points behind Sweden.

Sweden leads women’s team competition, 6 points ahead of Austria. Also Germany is still a threat to the leading Swedes, 7 points behind Austria. Italy is 4th, 10 points behind Germany, with good chances for a medal position, but probably no hope for gold any more.
