This was the first time that the disruption rules from WMF were put into action. The rules says that if its impossible to play the full cup due to weather or time shortage the final result will be according to the highest ranked of those left in the cup.
In the junior boys class this actually meant that the highest ranked from the qualifying rounds was also the new European Champion. Gerrit Britz from Germany was the best in the qualifications rounds and after having won against Marek Smejkal and Sebastian Kube he was in the quarter finals when the rain made it impossible to finish the Championship. At half past 3 in the afternoon the competition jury decided that they were forced break the competition and rank according to the standings so far. This also meant that it was tied silver between Robin Hettrich, Germany and Filiph Svensson, Sweden, since they had the same ranking in qualification and no sudden death was possible. This was Filiphs third consecutive individual medal in the juniors Championship. Still he lacks gold though.
In the girls class the gold went to Karin Heschl of Austria, who actually was defending her title from last year. This is rather unusual and unheard of since the match play started. For Heschl it was enough to beat the former European Champion Madara Krisa in the first match to win, since the top ranked Anne Hempel of Germany lost her first match against Olivia Prokopova. Second and silver meadlist went to Anna Nitschke of Germany and bronze went to Lara Jehle of Austria.

"Playing better" in minigolf means to score less points...and often with KO-System this is not enough to win...
Besides that, I just wanted to say that it's not right that a player's result is decided by other players' matches... If we want to mantain this system, surely these "limit cases" should be considered... |

If my uncle would've been a women it wouldn't be my uncle..... They just had to play better to be able to take a medal. The best players won the medals! |

09 Aug 2009 at 20:31 | With tournament interruption, this KO-System shows other "weak" aspects.
Take the example of Lorenzo Levis: if Gerrit Britz would have lost the playoff with Sebastian Kube, Lorenzo would have got the bronze medal. With Gerrit's victory he is 4th. It's not so fair that your result depends on other players matches.
Other example: Swiss team had 2 players against in the 1/4 final. That means a sure player in the topo 4 with high medal hopes. Cancelling the 1/4 finals they are 5th and 7th...that's not fair too... |

09 Aug 2009 at 14:18 | I am 12,5 % sure that Lorenzo Levis would have won the matchplay competition. |
