Fine late summer weather welcomed the participants of the Austrian Bundesliga in Vienna last weekend. Not many surprises could be found in the final result list. Nevertheless the game day followed his own rules and therefore it was interesting to watch. At least at the men team competition:
WAT21 had a very disappointing start in the first round placing themself on the last place and giving hope to the competitors to gain an early advantage. But they wisely exchanged the team bringing up Thomas Fitzinger (a well known top Ppayer, who played just a few competitions in the past 5 years) who lead the team as a closer with a fantastic 23 in the second round on the road to victory. In the third round the last 3 WAT21-players scored a 71!! (23,67 average) to take away the the hope of BGC-Wien to win the last round. So WAT21 ended up first just before the big competitor Bischofshofen. Third this time was Knittfeld showing up their ability to play great beton play. The fact that the 6 men teams competing were only seperated be 15 strokes showed how tight the match was and everything could have happened. But this will maybe not help Steyr and Gänserndorf who looked really disappointed after finding themselves at the end of the scoreboard.
At women team it was the expected easy run for Rot-Gold winning every of the 3 rounds. A nice job and good result was done by the rookies from Linz bringing them to the 2nd place.
Best individual results were played by Heinz Weber (75), Manfred Lindmayr (76) and Thomas Fitzinger (78), while women’s bestscore was 81, played by Elisabeth Gruber. » http://www.oebgv.at/content/bl2010/MERG.HTM
