Interview with Sandra Weaver (SW), Sweden and Jönköping BGK
This interview was done the 23rd of February 2010. Interviewer is Hans Bergström (HB).
HB: First of all congratulations to a great season of 2009 which lead to the vote for “Woman player of the Year” on Minigolfnews. Did you expect to win the vote?
SW: Thank you very much! Well, I don’t want to say that I expected to win, but I knew that I had a good chance.
HB: You won both the public vote and the expert jury vote. Which of them do you value the most?
SW: I think they’re equally important.
HB: So how do you feel about the upcoming season? Will it be possible to find the motivation after a year of total success such as last year?
SW: That’s actually a tough question. At the moment I am not sure how much I will play this season.
HB: How does your season planning look like for 2010?
SW: I will at least play Elitserien, and then I’ll have to see what other tournaments I will play.
HB: There is currently an ongoing poll for “Men player of the Year”. Who will get the high points in this vote from you?
SW: It’s a very close race, because I believe that there is nobody that is a clear winner of the title. If I have to choose one, I have to choose the greatest achievement, the World Champion, my team mate, Jonas Gustafsson.
HB: WMF TC recently announced that the plan of having both a stroke champion and a match play champion could find enough support to go through. So it will still be only one champion after match play. What do you think about that decision?
SW: First of all I think there should only be one champion. Then, like I think I have mentioned before, I don’t like the match play, I think the stroke play is a much more fair system. But, however, I believe it’s better to play match play alone than to have two champions.
HB: Can you foresee any players making big breakthroughs in the international arena coming during 2010.
SW: Nobody comes to mind at this point.
HB: What happens next for you in Minigolf?
SW: At the moment I don’t have many tournaments planned. I might play a final at Munktell in the beginning of April.
HB: Again a big congratulation to the title “Women player of the year” and good luck in the future.
SW: Thank you!
