Birmingham’s Chris Harding became the first-ever Scottish Minigolf Open Champion as he beat 28 competitors to take the title at the Pirate Island Adventure Golf course at Codonas Beach Aberdeen on Sunday 16th May.
Harding made it five wins from six BMGA Tour events this season with his four-round score of 125(-19), following rounds of 30, 30, 31 and 34.
Finland’s Jouni Valkjärvi was runner-up after defeating Oxford’s Michael Smith in a play-off after both players had finished on scores of 127(-17). Smith, a member of the Kent Minigolf Club, also set the BMGA Tour Course Record for the course with his scores of 29(-7), which he achieved in rounds two and three.
In the top local/novice player competition it was Brechin’s Alastair Shaw who took the honours, with Richard Skeggs second and Aberdeen’s David Ross third.
The tournament Aces Champion was John McIver from Hastings, who scored 16 holes-in-one across the four rounds.
BMGA Chairman Sean Homer said “The BMGA would like to thank Marion Homer for running the competition on the day, and also to John Codonas, Ian Littlewood, Karen McDonald and all of the team at the course for their great hospitality over the weekend.”
Karen McDonald from Codonas Aberdeen said “We are very proud to have hosted the Scottish Open and we look forward to the BMGA’s return to Aberdeen.”
