Off to Predazzo: Interview with Anna Bandera

Interview with Anna Bandera, Italy and GSP Cusano

This interview was done in August 2010. Interviewer is Hans Bergström (HB).

HB: First of all thank you for letting Minigolfnews interview you.

HB: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself to those who don’t know you. Who is Anna Bandera?

AB: I’m 23 years old and I live in Castellanza, a small city near Milan. I studied Law at University and I will take my degree next October. I like listening to metal music, reading fantasy books and collecting dragons. My dad has been playing minigolf since 1973, my mom was in the Italian national team in the 80's and my twin sister started to play this year.

Short trivia:
Profession: Student at university
Year of birth: 1986
Start of Minigolf career: 2004
Make of club: Nifo
Favourite ball: Bof Catherine Massem BM 2005
Favourite surface: Eternit
Technical tip: Training time is fundamental so don’t overlook any detail and spend a lot of time on courses in order to be confident with your playing.

HB: What do you think of your 2010 season so far? You were only fourth in the Italian Championships a tournament you won last year. Any comments about that?

AB: I am quite satisfied with how I'm playing this year and I made several good tournaments. Unfortunately the Italian Championships did not go as I hoped: the level of play of the other players was high and I probably played below my abilities.

HB: Can you share with us your reflections on last year’s Odense Championship? You were ninth after the qualifying rounds and then lost to Maria Olsson in the first match. How do you feel about that result, good or bad?

AB:I think that was a really good result: it was my first important tournament on felt and I was really satisfied of my play.

HB: Last time you played at home was the World Championships in Canegrate 2007. This wasn’t so successful for you or the Italian Ladies Team. The Team was in sixth place and you didn’t qualify for the KO-finals. Was the pressure on you from the home fans to tough that time?

AB: I don’t think that the problem was the pressure of the fans. It was my first experience with the Italian Team but unfortunately I didn’t play well as I expected despite of the fact that we trained a lot on that courses.

HB: You are soon to be off to Predazzo. What are your hopes about this Championship for the Italian Teams and for yourself?

AB: I think that this tournament will be a good opportunity for the Male Team to reach a medal and for the Ladies team to improve the position of last year. About myself I hope to qualify for the KO finals and then we will see...

HB: Are you as home nation well prepared and know the Predazzo course well?

AB: Of course, we all know well that courses. We played there our Italian Championships and many other tournaments. We only hope to be able to put into practice what we learned.

HB: And who of the Italian Players do you think will have the best chance individually (except yourself of course)?

AB: I think that Rudy Giroldini and Paolo Porta have the best chances but don’t forget Francesco “Magic Cecio” Leuci who is playing really well right now.

HB: And what are the favorites for the gold medals individually in Predazzo do you think?

AB: It’s not simple to say who are the favorites because of the KO system but I think that the German players are the best and have the best chances.

HB: Are there any nations or players that you think will have a breakthrough this year in Predazzo?

AB: I don’t think that the courses in Predazzo allow particular breakthrough, but watch out the home teams...

HB: What is your best moment in your Minigolf Career?

AB: It’s not simple to say because I had a lot of satisfactions in my career but I think that my first Italian title in 2008 was really a special moment. Of course also winning the “nation cup” in Predazzo this year was a great result.

HB: And the worst?

AB: Maybe because the wound is still open, but right now my worst moment is the result of the Italian championships this year because it came in a moment when I felt really confident in my playing.

HB: What is your opinion on the KO-modus in international championships?

AB: I think that is funny for those who are watching and also for who is playing even if, maybe, it could be better a KO system based on shots and not on the won holes.

HB: If you could recruit any player in the world, as long as it’s not an Italian person, to play for you club who would you pick?

AB: Nice question. I admire a lot of players but since I started to play my “minigolf idol” is Bianca Oberweg, so, if I can dream, I’d like to play in my team with her.

HB: Again thanks for participating a good luck in Predazzo.

AB: Thank you !
