In case you're in the minigolf world and have never heard of Allan Cox, he is widely known as the king of miniature golf trick shot aces. His PuttPuttDownUnder YouTube channel has over 5 million views and he's put this wide viewership to good use by raising funds for charity through ad sales. It's only fitting now that we see his name atop a major leaderboard as he kept the competition at bay to win the inaugural Australian Minigolf Championship.
The tournament was held on November 6th at Thornleigh Golf Centre. It was a four round tournament with the big prize being a first place payout of $3,500 (~2,440 EUR). Allan made his final push to the top on the last two holes, edging out David Merriman & Nathan Lamplough who tied for 2nd. Fourth place went to Stefan Nyul.
Allan had this to say about the final round "That last round was pretty crazy, it is not every day you are running third, four shots back from a PGA golf pro and shoot -4 on a Harris mini golf course last round for the win. 25 years of competition miniature golf coming to the fore. A month of preparation / charting, spending approx 80 hrs on the two courses in the lead up. Was nice to play well down the stretch and make a couple of crucial 6 footers on the last two holes. "
When asked about what it felt like to win the inaugural tournament, Allan replied "A sense of relief I think. To put that much time and effort in before hand and get the result was pretty amazing. To win $3,500 was a nice reward for all that effort."
