Germany and Austria win team gold in seniors

Germany won men’s team competition with a margin of 28 points
at Seniors European Championships 2008, at the beton and eternite courses of
Predazzo, Italy. Sweden took silver, after tied score and sudden death play-off
against Italy.
In women’s competition the tight last-round battle between three teams
turned to Austrians, who took gold with a margin of 3 points only.
Italy got silver, 2 points ahead of Germany in third place.
Sweden in fourth place was more clearly 59 points behind the bronze medalists.
Three best players of the 8 preliminary rounds were
Jörg Wiedermeier of Switzerland
(beton 30.25, eternite 22.25),
Reinhard Zengaffinen of Switzerland
(beton 31.25, eternite 21.50),
and Dirk Czerwek of Germany
(beton 30.25, eternite 22.50).
In women’s competition the three best players of 8 preliminary rounds were
Elisabeth Kammerer of Austria
(beton 31.25, eternite 23.50),
Frauke Eilts of Germany
(beton 32.50, eternite 22.50),
and Antonella Flamini of Italy
(beton 31.50, eternite 24.00).
The tournament continues on Saturday 9 August, with 32 best men and 16 best women
playing cup matches of 9 lanes beton and 9 lanes eternite.
