There are about 300 recesses on one golf ball, and thanks to them, the ball flies three times farther than a smooth one. ... Balls of the same size...

WMF has published the invitation for World Adventure Golf Masters 2011, which will be played at the brand new Pirate Adventure Golf course of Hastings seafront in south-eastern England.

The competition will be played on 13 - 14 May 2011 in Hastings with official WMF rules (special minigolf balls allowed), consisting of 6 + 1 rounds for 4-player mixed national teams, and 6 + 1 rounds strokeplay for the individual champion title. (Total number of rounds in the competition is 8, of which the first 7 are counted for the team competition, and the first 6 + the 8th round are counted for the individual competition.)

My information about the dates came from inside WMF, but anyway who cares, now is showtime. Everyone knew that WAGM is coming and nobody cared to ask when it is when deciding their own calendars. The fate of a newcomer rookie, a fact of life.

I have to say that while debating and discussing any event is encouraged (irrespective of whether people are positive or negative), getting the facts and information wrong is not. With this in mind I feel it is important to correct some of the comments regarding the WAGM on this thread.

The competition day was NOT chosen based on how full the BMGA calendar was, without thinking how full the calendar of other countries are. Gerhard Zimmerman came over to the UK in September last year to take a closer look at the BMGA British Open and the way that the BMGA run major events. We discussed the WAGM and following further discussions by myself looking at likely venues for the event, I made a number of date proposals to the WMF. The WMF agreed the date (rightly so, as they are clearly better placed to make this call than an individual nation). With the date agreed, the BMGA calendar for 2011 was built around this key date (not the other way around).

I really hope players from across other Nations take on the challenge of taking part in this event in May - it will be a great competition and in keeping with our other BMGA tour events I have no doubt that all players will thoroughly enjoy the experience both on and off the course!

One other point regarding the photo and text at the head of this thread, it is important to note that the BMGA (myself and the rest of the Executive Committee) are organising the event in liaison with the WMF, and will be wholly responsible for the running of the event in May. Castle Golf are providing us with a fantastic new course to host the event on, but are not organising the competition.

Well like many have said there will be hicups along the way and maybe it'll be like "Marmite on toast", the players will come and either love or next time leave it!

At least we're all spreading the word and letting people know that the game we love is a sport with people who really have great skill.

I'm sorry, but I'm leaving the U.S. Open

I think it will be the same for me as for a lot of other players. I got about 25 days of holiday each year. To be able to also have some normal holiday I just can't find the time to go overseas and play this tournament. Same thing happened for me with the Diamond Minigolf Masters in Prague last weekend...

Too bad, because I think it really is a good step for international minigolf.

WAGM seems to be on bottom of the food chain in international minigolf world this year. Partly because of the date overlapping with other tournaments whose regular participants prefer them instead of WAGM (US Open attracts all Americans plus probably Olivia too, and Swedish league occupies practically all Swedish players of all skill levels). The competition day was chosen based on how full the BMGA calendar is, without thinking how full the calendar of other countries are...

Also economically WAGM is on bottom of the food chain, national federations invest their money first to WC, SEM and JEM, and the few countries that still have some money left after paying these competitions, invest their money also to NC, SNC and JNC... there are not many countries that have any money left for WAGM after paying all these higher priority competitions.

As Gü said earlier in this discussion, for players it is difficult to find spare holidays (and money) for this event, if one plays also NC + WC and maybe also ECup, as well as a full season in a club team.

All discussions about participants have been very quiet here... possibly it will be the reality also.

So are there any current players from anywhere in the world who are thinking of attending... Will we see a Chinese team or Korean team or any US players......

I see the Portuguese Federation is the only one that treats this Tournament in equal terms as all other International Championships...there'll be no money support.

As far as I know Italian federation will ask if someone is interested to go there, but won't give any money support to that...

i dont know if the austria federation would do this. i didnt ask cause i cant go there. i have just 5 weeks ( or 20 days ) per year for holiday. and i need every day for minigolf and cant take another week for this competition. but if i would not have this "holidayproblem" i would play there, cause i think its new experience of playing minigolf on such courses i never played before... but this year i prefer to play nations cup in stockholm. maybe i will change in 2012 or 2013... :-)
