The juniors showed their skills and the first ever Norwegian winning the Swedish Championships was the result when the match play game was decided on Saturday in Gothenburg.
For the first time the Swedish Championships should award winner also in Match play. From the stroke play ending yesterday there were the best 16 female participants and the 32 best male participants playing for the medals in two cup threes. The competition was held in sunny weather on Gullbersbros eternit in Gothenburg.
As usual you needed to play sharp and concentrated and also maybe sometimes have some luck. The margins with match play only played on eternit are narrow and there is lots of room for underdog wins. This was no exception. In the men’s category yesterday’s winner Patrik Jönsson had to leave in the first game. And he was followed by other favourites such as Ulf Kristiansson, Lars Brown, Martin Lundell, Filip Svensson and Derice Shumilov Susoho, who all lost in the first round.
When it was time for the semi-finals they looked like this Markus Nilsson - Henrik Weiland, Lars Kvael - Mats Olsson. In the women's category it was Linda Lundberg against Frida Elmdahl and Marielle Svensson against Jenny Erlandsson.
The semi-finals were very well played and the participant shoed very little nerves. The games were concentrated, exiting and well played tough matches. Two of the semi-finals went to the sudden death. There it was Linda Lundberg and Lars Kvael that drew the longest straw.
The final in the men’s side was to be played between junior Markus Nilsson and the Norwegian Kvael. In the ladies final played the home hope Linda Lundberg against junior Marielle Svensson from Malmö.
The men's final was high class and Lars Kvael got to use all 18 lanes to eventually defeat Markus with 2-0. The first ever Norwegian victory in a Swedish Championship was a fact.
In the ladies final Linda Lundberg lost three courses in the start and Marielle never gave her the chance to come back. Marielle aced the first twelve tracks and decided then with an ace on the lane 17 the match and the championship. The first who gave Marielle a big hug and congratulations where her big brother, the reigning world champion Filiph Svensson.
