Interview with Sara Karlsson (SK), Sweden and Olofströms BGK
This interview was done the 19th of March 2013. Interviewer is Hans Bergström (HB).
HB: First of all congratulations to a great season of 2012 which lead to the vote for “Woman player of the Year” on Minigolfnews. Did you expect to win the vote?
SK: I knew I had a great chance to win but Anne Bollrich had also a really good season (2012).
HB: You won the public vote and came second in the expert votes, but overall you won with a narrow margin over Anne Bollrich. Which of the results, the public vote or the expert votes do you value the most?
SK: I value both of them, but of course it’s fun to have the majority of the public vote behind me.
HB: It’s quite unique for a junior to have such success in the general class and also to win this voting! Can you explain how you have managed the step into the general class top in such a young age?
SK: A lot of training and dedication.
HB: Upcoming is also the Junior Girls player of the Year vote. Do you think you will win also that vote?
SK: I can always hope but it will be tough since I didn’t win the Junior World Championship.
HB: Looking back on Porto and the last lanes in the stroke play finals. Do you think you will ever experience a more exciting moment on the course again?
SK: No I don’t, it’s once in a lifetime.
HB: So how do you feel about the upcoming season? Will it be possible to find the motivation after a year of total success such as last year?
SK: Yes of course, I always struggle to become a better player.
HB: How does your season planning look like for 2013?
SK: I will play just as much as I did in 2012.
HB: Will you be part of a strong Swedish team in the upcoming World Championships in Bad Munder and do you think you will be able to give the German Ladies Team a match for the gold?
SK: I hope that I will be a part of the Swedish team and it will be a tough match for the gold because we are playing on felt this time. But I think we will have a good chance since that’s our better surface.
HB: Even though you won the title of “Woman player of the Year” on Minigolfnews you did not win Swedish Minigolfer of the year award, which was won by Martin Lundell. Are you disappointed about that?
SK: A little bit and a lot of people said that both of us would be the Swedish Minigolfer of the year. But I will fight for that title next year.
HB: Again a big congratulation to the title “Women player of the year” and good luck in the future.
SK: Thank you very much!
