Dutch league about to adapt Swedish system?

The board of the Dutch Minigolf Federation (FNMB) has finalized a proposal to change the regulations and thereby playing system of the Dutch premier league, Landelijke Hoofdklasse (LHK).

After years of playing with mixed 4+1 team competition, the clubs and sports committee of the FNMB wants to change to the Swedish match-play system already upcoming season. Reason is that the old system lost his charm to most competitors as it is the same situation each year.

After reading about the Swedish System, Piet Tiekstra (Top-sport coordinator and replacing President of the FNMB) made a proposal which has been accepted by the clubs competing in the LHK. At the extra meeting for members of the FNMB on 31 january 2009 it will be possible for the clubs to vote for the change.

Tiekstra writes at the FNMB's website "Up to now the title of the LHK basically had no value. In all sports the champion of the highest league will be send to the European Cup to fight for the European title in club teams. With minigolf we no longer want to run behind other sports."

Some future changes in the FNMB(?):

  • The LHK will be played with mixed 6(+1) teams
  • The winner of the LHK will be representing the Netherlands at the European Cup
  • Teams will play against all other teams ones in each weekend according to the Swedish Match-play rules
  • Women teams will play a special competition during the Dutch Combi Championships
In the Netherlands it is possible to be member two different clubs at the same time. One to play competition and one to play (individual) championships and tournaments with.

Dates of the competition are: 5 April, 3 May, 10 May, 17 May and 28 June. It is still unknown at what courses the LHK will be played.

I don't agree on that..

I don't think that it is smart to leave such changes outside the proposal. Some people won't react very positive at the other changes if they find out things are being changed without asking the members, bu behind their backs! But that's my expatation about it. And if that would be the reason for them to give a negative vote (and I see this happening within 2 weeks), than it's a shame of the idea and the real intentions.

I think the reason to leave that part blank is that the commission, together with the teams, can change the rules of the competition more easily instead of going through the whole trouble by changing rules, let other people decide etc...

Hmm.. ok..

Still a little bit strange that it is not a part of the proposed changes in the regulations.. Why not is the question? if the teams want to play it like that. The article 3.8.1.3.1 can be changed on 31 january

The purpose of this special meeting is to talk and vote about the new regulations, when it's accepted, there is no way back.. now they leave an opening to skip this part of the changes..

The exact words of changing the system is not in the proposal to change the rules, this is because this is not part of the rulechangements. The sportscommitte (or what do you call it) should decide about this together with the clubs. There have been "meetings" between the clubs and the sport-committee at the end of last season and they voted for the new system.

It might have been a small missunderstanding in the article. I've corrected it.

Hello Erik,

Where in the proposal did you read that the LHK will take over the Swedish matchplay rules?? The is no proposal made for changing the playing system! chapter XII article 3.8.1.3.1 of the current regulations (read it yourself!), there isn't any new proposal for this part of the regulations.. so there won't be voted for this issue and it won't be part of the LHK in 2009 (assuming the rest of the proposed changes will be accepted).

The most important change is that the winner of the LHK will go the EC and teams should have 6 (7 incl substitute) mixed players.. and it will be easier to be part of a team which competes in the LHK.

Well, I think when they are going to change... and it looks like it will be difficult to get at least 5 teams, they will have to cut the teams down to 4 or 5 players.

But we'll see what happens at the extra meeting first. Of course you will find a small report here.

Maybe cutting the teams down to 4 or even 3 players instead of 5 would be a solution. With that said I assume you have 5 player squads as we do.

And also a big applause from me to the creators of this site.
Also a very good-looking one. Keep it up!!

it will be possible to have a "loaner" when they put the premier league on a different agenda :-)

Of course this might be an issue, but there will be a free (?) sign-up for teams who want to take part in the LHK. I don't know if there are new ones interested, but the advantage is that you can have a player on loan from other clubs. But the idea to change it is great I think, it will be a good impulse into Dutch minigolf.

Thanks for the compliment!
