Birmingham’s Chris Harding wins BMGA National Open Minigolf Tournament
The new British Minigolf Association Tour season teed-off with the 2010 BMGA National Open competition on Sunday 24th January at the Adventure Island Minigolf course at Star City, Birmingham.
Reigning BMGA Star City Open title holder, and former World Crazy Golf Champion, Chris Harding from Great Barr was able to win again with an outstanding three round total of 87(-21) shaving two shots off the score he recorded last year. Chris’s third round on the Lost Hut Trail course also set a new course record of 28(-8), hitting eight holes-in-one in the process.
Playing one round on the Hidden Cove course and two rounds on the Lost Hut Trail course 35 players competed in the three round (54-hole) National Open tournament.
Second was Kevin Moseley from Bath who scored 94(-14), followed by Kent’s Marc Chapman who beat Newcastle’s John Moore in the play-off for third place after both tied on 97(-11).
In the junior title race Cambridge’s Adam Kelly won with a score of 104(-4) for an 11th place finish overall. Leo Kukielka from Cwmbran was second and 15th overall, with Birmingham’s Owen Johnson in third and 27th overall, and Thomas McDonald in fourth place and 33rd overall in his debut event.
Matt Caple picked up the Novice title. With Oxford’s Michael Smith defeating his father, Christopher, in a thrilling play-off for the runner-up novice slot.
Brighton’s Peter Emmerson won the Aces Title, defeating Luton’s Richard Gottfried in a sudden death play-off at the third hole. Along with Chris Harding, Richard also set the new course record on the Lost Hut Trail course with a superb score of 28(-8) in his final round, including 10 holes-in-one, six of them in a row.
Players on the BMGA Tour will next be in action in the BMGA English Open tournament at the Jungle Rumble course in Bristol on Sunday 28th February.
The BMGA Tour returns to the Midlands in April when the 18-hole Minigolf course in Stratford upon Avon hosts both the Midlands Open and the BMGA British Doubles tournaments. » results » photo gallery » website of Adventure Island minigolf course
