Minigolf Dream Team 2009, men
01 Mar 2010 at 20:43 | Published by: JJM | Views: 8856 | News search
We asked 10 minigolf experts and our website visitors to vote the best minigolf players of the 2009 season. Both groups of voters (the public and the experts) chose the same six players into their Dream Team 2009: Jonas Gustafsson (SWE), Carl-Johan Ryner (SWE), Harald Erlbruch (GER), Anders Olsson (SWE), Filiph Svensson (SWE), and Alexander Geist (GER).
The seventh place in the Dream Team 2009 went to adventure golf player Greg Newport (USA) in the public vote, and to Csaba Pálinkás (Hungary) in the expert vote.
The expert vote included these persons: Pasi Aho (FIN), Erik Gustavsson (SWE), Christian Due Maglemose (DEN), Michael Neuland (GER), Jan Pergl (CZE), Claudio Santopietro (ITA), Jan Strandberg (SWE), Petra Szablikowski (GER), Piet Tiekstra (NED), and Wolfgang Wicki (SUI). » full results of the public poll » last year’s poll: Minigolf Dream Team 2008

03 Mar 2010 at 12:11 | Ï'm not surprised at all to see the result of this poll. That was what I expected.
But I am disappointed of the result. With all due respect to Jonas and all the other great players, I think that Greg Newport earned this title.
In my mind there was no doubt what so ever. I gave him 10 points because of his 4 1st places in those tournaments listed.
I expect that it'll be hard to find the right winner of such a poll. |

02 Mar 2010 at 20:17 | I know how hard it must've been to compile the list but Keith is also a World Champion, I just think that warranted a place on the list. I know Europeans aren't overjoyed at the WCGC title though, but it didn't stop JJM from playing & hopefully more will come & enjoy it this year! |

02 Mar 2010 at 19:55 | Of course you can argue about the names in the list. It’s actually a quite time-consuming job to at all come up with the 20 on the list, surfing around and comparing different merits. We are aware of that Keith has had a strong season, but so have many players around the world and his merits didn’t get him into the list in our judgment. Right or wrong, of course you can argue.
Just being a champion in your country is not qualifying to be one of the 20. There are lots of Champions from different countries that have not qualified to our list. The expert voters had the possibility and instructions to add any name they thought was missing, but so far no names have been added to our suggested 20. This possibility we couldn’t give to our public voters due to technical limitations in our site.

02 Mar 2010 at 19:29 | You could ask that of a lot of people & you'd get hundreds thinking they were in the top 20 in the world! Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the poll for the best 2009 players? A Champion in his country & also a World Champion should have warranted a place in the list of nominees. Obviously it would've only been the UK forum users that would have voted for him, but that's not my point. |

02 Mar 2010 at 17:55 | Keith is a globetrotter, he has seen the minigolf world a lot. Maybe ask him how he views the minigolf world, does he feel that he is one of the 20 best minigolf players in the world? |

02 Mar 2010 at 15:29 | I shouldn't worry & don't take it personally against the USA Smitty. Obviously there are some great American players, as there are great British players. Our British Champion also won the World Crazy Golf Championship in the same year & wasn't even included in the poll. Outrageous! |
Smitty (Jeffrey Smith) |
02 Mar 2010 at 14:01 | JJM, I don't think a simple statistical dismissal of Americans is accurate in the real world. Europe might have 100 times more bobsledders, ice hockey players and nordic combined athletes than the USA, still Americans win medals in Olympic competitions. |
JJM (John Mittler) |
01 Mar 2010 at 22:36 | USA plays a different game than Europe, so nobody can expect a fair comparison between them. But thinking that Europe has 100 times more registered competition players than USA, statistically it would be surprising to find more than one American in world top 10. Against the odds, statistically. |
Smitty (Jeffrey Smith) |
01 Mar 2010 at 21:17 | Next year you should just exclude Americans entirely. To have Greg Newport 7th among public voters and out of the top ten in the 'expert' vote shows that not many Europeans know much about what happens in the USA. This would have been a more accurate vote if we only consider eternit, beton and felt tournaments and disregard all other playing surfaces and systems. Other than that, congratulations to Mr. Gustafsson for a well deserved Player of the Year. | Add comment | To add comments, you need to log in.
