As in the last season Hardenberg is the Bundesliga Champion again. Although there is another match to play their lead is 15 points, but only 8 points can be won in one match. Also Göttingen is very likely the Champion of the women's teams as Mainz has to win 8 points and 43 shots on Göttingen in the last match.
The top men's and women's teams of the German Bundesliga met up for the 5th match on the eternit course in Bad Münder on the 2nd of June. This was the last test for the top German players for the World Championships in August. And it was a hard test. The weather conditions were quite unpleasant. Most of the practice days were rainy and the day of the competition was quite windy, even stormy. The balls were often blown away at the tee-off by the strong wind and started rolling without a shot. Temporary walls were placed along some lanes as a wind shelter. Because of the delays due to the strong wind the competition was cut to 3 rounds for the men's teams.
And the course was made more difficult. Some easy lanes were eqiupped with quite difficult obstacles - a rhombus for the double wedges, a special V (Salzburger V) for the labyrinth and a plateau for net. Especially the V and the plateau proved as very challenging lanes and some players had problems there. Even the reigning European Champion Achim Braungart Zink had a 7 on the plateau.
Hardenberg won the men's team competition in an absolutely convincing manner with 393 (ø 21.8), 18 shots ahead of Mainz with 411 (ø 22.8). Only 2 shots behind Dormagen-Brechten reached a 3rd place and won important 4 points to be able to keep the league at the last match. Further 2 shots behind Arheilgen ended up on the 4th place although they had a chance to reach the 2nd place, but with the 7 of Achim Braungart-Zink on the plateau and the 4 of Rainer Hess on the V in the last round Arheilgen lost too much on Mainz and Dormagen. Niendorf again got no points and have to fight to keep the league at the last match.
The best player of the day was Harald Erlburch from Hardenberg with 61 (ø 20.3), followed by Andreas Schneider from Arheilgen with 62 (ø 20.7) and Michael Koziol from Hardenberg with 63 (ø 21.0).
There is no change in the rankings of the men's teams. The former Champion Hardenberg is the new one. Niendorf is now only 2 points ahead of Dormagen-Brechten and has to struggle at the last match to keep the league.
The women's team from Mainz took the lead after an excellent 1st round of 66 and Göttingen started badly. But from the 2nd round on Göttingen caught up. At the end Göttingen won with 284 (ø 23.7) in front of Mainz with 293 (ø 24.4). Olching reached the 3rd place ahead of Cuxhaven and Bensheim.
The best woman was Bianca Zodrow with 94 (ø 23.5).
There is also not much change in the rankings of the women's teams. Göttingen is very likely the new Champion. Mainz is on the 2nd place with a confortable lead of 16 points ahead of Olching who changed the place with Cuxhaven. Bensheim-Auerbach has to struggle to keep the league at the last match as they need to win 6 points on Cuxhaven.
The last Bundesliga match will take place on the felt course in Flöha near Chemnitz in East Germany on the 22nd of June.
