This weekend was the Nations Cup weekend in Germany, Netherlands and Portugal. In all three places there were some troubles with rain showers and interruptions.
In Bad Münder the general class had to cut down on qualification round to six due to the rain showers on Saturday. Also the results were affected and the felt results were quite much higher than what’s usual on the easy felt course.
But already from the beginning it was quite clear that the three home teams from Germany were going to be hard to beat. This was the third weekend in a row for the German top players playing in Bad Münder so these world class players came rather well prepared.
In the first group of the qualification rounds Germany 1 won the group before Germany 3. Sweden in third place was never really close to threaten any of the German teams. In the second group Germany 2 won and Switzerland took relatively easy second position. In third came Czech Republic but they were a bit behind Switzerland.
The most spectacular achievement in the qualification rounds was the new world record on one lap of felt set by Marcel Noack with 21 strokes. The old record, 22 strokes, was set by Manfred Lindmayr, Austria at the European Championships in Thessaloniki, Greece, 1994. Marcel started his record round with 2-2 on lane 1 and 2. Then he had another 2 on lane 7 (the mailbox where almost no-one aces or even try to ace). Marcel also had a really sharp double round of 40 (21-19) which is also unofficial world record, double rounds are not counted officially.
In the first semifinal Germany 1 easily won over Switzerland with 186-213. . In the second semifinal Germany 2 won over Germany 3 with 7 strokes 195-202. leaving Germany 1 vs. Germany 2 for the final.
The small final was won by Germany 3 over Switzerland by 189-202. In the final Germany 2 was two ahead after the felt lap but with a quite bad eternit lap of 89 the Germany 1 the field were open for Germany 2 and they won by 194-205.
