We asked our website visitors to vote their favourite Player of the Year 2008. In addition to this public vote, we also asked some well-known minigolf experts from different countries to nominate their favourite All Stars team 2008: 7 men and 4 women.
The expert vote included these persons: Pasi Aho (FIN), Markus Berger (AUT), Tim Davies (GBR), Ernst-Jan Meijer (NED), Astra Miglane-Stanwyck (USA), Michael Neuland (GER), Paolo Porta (ITA), Olivia Prokopová (CZE), Carl-Johan Ryner (SWE), Petra Szablikowski (GER), Jason Weaver (CAN), Florian Wietz (GER).
Sandra Bengtson of Sweden was the top name of the year, both in the public vote and in the expert vote. What else can we say about a player who broke all world records at the European Cup, and was 4th best in the preliminary rounds of European Championships 2008.
Sandra Wicki of Switzerland was ranked 2nd best player of the year, both in the public vote and in the expert vote. Her merits of the year include European Champion 2008 title and a bronze medal at Swiss championships 2008.
Our expert jury ranked Nicole Gundert-Greiffendorf and Nicole Piechotta to the All Stars team of 4 best players of the season. Piechotta took silver at European Championships, and also at German Championships. Gundert-Greiffendorf was near the top simply everywhere, including bronze at European Championships, bronze at German Championships,
and 2nd best player of European Cup.
The public voters saw the Dream Team of 2008 season a bit differently. Sandra Weaver and Elisabeth Berger-Rella were voted 3th and 4th best players of the season. Berger-Rella won Austrian Championships 2008, and was 2nd best in the preliminary rounds of European Championships. Weaver took silver at Swedish Championships and 4th place at European Championships.
Certainly worth mentioning is also the 2008 season of Alice Kobisch, who was voted 5th best in the expert vote. Kobisch was the best player in the preliminary rounds of European Championships, and played a better game on beton than any other player in the competition, including men and women.
