Former national team player Axel Ekman won the winter season opener at Rahola eternite course in Tampere, Finland, with average score 20.80 in 5 rounds. Total averages under 21.00 are not seen every day at this course, which has several quite tricky lanes. At Nordic Championships 2009 only 5 players scored under the 21.00 limit.
Finnish national team player 1990–1994 Kari Kulmala took second place with average 22.40, 8 points behind the winner (1.60 points per round). International referee Ari Ahrenberg was third with average 22.80.
