The very hot (around 30°C!) final league weekend was played on the home course of MC Eichholz Gerlafingen, the biggest rival of MC Olten, the last years. An old, tough course with squared bends instead of pipe bends, not easy for playing constantly low rounds. The precondition for this final days promised a big fight between the second placed MC Gerlafingen and the 14 points leading team of MC Olten. In third position MC Burgdorf, just 8 points behind MC Gerlafingen.
Also in the women league MC Olten was in the lead. In second MC Effretikon was positioned and chasing, and they are the Champions from past 5 years. And in 3rd position it´s also MC Burgdorf, just 5 points behind of MC Effretikon.
And keeping the playing modus in mind, points is awarded after each round (like NC´s are played) these margins of points are not so much for 7 rounds left.
To the fight about the title in women’s category there was a surprising good start of the team from MC Burgdorf by winning first round with 91. The leading team of Olten came in second position, but the rival for the title, Effretikon, with an unlucky 4th place. After this start Burgdorf surprisingly got ahead of Effretikon and up to 2nd position. Olten was still leading with “comfortable“ 14 points ahead Burgdorf. But after this very good start, Burgdorf had the worst round of whole weekend with 108 and a 5th place. Effretikon came back by equalizing best female team round of 91 and winning in front of Olten. So the old ranking was recovered about the fight between Olten and Effretikon. At the end Effretikon (31,17) won this league day with 32 points, just one point before Olten (31,42 ) and 4 before Burgdorf (32,33). In summary there was a gap of 10 points between 1st and 2nd and also from 2nd to 3rd. Best female player was Sandra Wicki (Effretikon) with 123, followed by Stefanie Blendermann and Melanie Blaser (both MCO) with 124.
The final league day Olten started with a winning round of 92, which meant that the fight for title was almost over, since Effretikon with 94 had to share points with Burgdorf and Neuendorf and lost another 4 points to Olten. After 3 rounds, Effretikon (30,89) won again this day, but also again just one point before Olten (31,44) and Burgdorf (31,33). So the women of MC Olten won the league for first time in club history and in second position followed the 5 times in a row champions of MC Effretikon. At final day women´s best were Claudia Anderegg (Burgdorf) with 85, followed by Rebecka Weber (Effretikon) 88and Stephanie Pantet (MCO) 89.
Almost same history happened at Saturday in male competition. Gerlafingen (6+6+2) and leading team Olten (8+4+4) matched about points in every round, but almost nothing happened cause they were very close every round. But suddenly there was the well playing team of Burgdorf (10+9+6) coming closer and closer and after 3rd round of 4 they got ahead of home team Gerlafingen to 2nd place. At this time Olten was still leading 13 points before Burgdorf and 16 before Gerlafingen. And at this day the teams of Rhone and Neuendorf played between or in front or the top teams several times and were in key roles in this case.
The drama of this playing modus is showed in some interesting details. 1st round 6 strokes between first 4 teams, 2nd round just 3 strokes between first 4 teams, 3rd round 9 strokes between first 5 teams, 4th round 6 strokes between first 5 teams. Or in another way, if Gerlafingen would have been just 2 strokes better in every round at this day, they would have had 28 points at this day, Olten just 20 and Burgdorf 25. But “what if“ is senseless, that´s the system.
So after 3rd league day Olten (average was leading 16 points to Gerlafingen and Burgdorf. Winning team of this day was Rhone (30,96) and Burgdorf (30,50) with 27 points, Neuendorf (31,04) on 3rd with 26, Olten (30,75) just 4th with 21 and Gerlafingen (30,79) on 5th with 19. Best single players were Michel Rhyn (MCO) with 113, before Mario Schneider (Rhone) 115 and Raphael Wietlisbach (Gerlafingen) 116.
At the final day Gerlafingen started with green round of 179, but was followed right behind by Olten with 182, next Burgdorf 186. 2nd round Olten showed their strength with a green 178, followed by Gerlafingen with 180, next again Burgdorf with 186. After still leading 16 points ahead of Gerlafingen, MC Olten fixed already their 6th title in a row one round before finish and now they are exclusive record champion in Switzerland in series titles. But the fight about the 2nd place was still open between Burgdorf and Gerlafingen. Burgdorf by themselves showed great performance with green 178, but needed help from other teams to play between them and Gerlafingen to get silver medal. Anyway, Gerlafingen played solid 183 and saved 2 points in summary to become 6th time in a row runner-up in Switzerland. This final day Olten (30,11) won with 26 points before Gerlafingen (30,11) with 24 and Burgdorf (30,56) with 22. Best single players were again Michel Rhyn together with Günter Inmann (MCO) and Christian Kühni (Rhone) with common 86.
MC Olten will play for first time with both a male and female team at the European Team cup in October in Holešov (CZE).
